Pfungstadt is a German town of 25.117 inhabitants, in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the state of Hesse.

The town was first mentioned in 785 as property of the monastery of Lorsch and got its city rights in 1886 due to its railway station. It is located to the West of the Odenwald hills, one of the closest being Frankenstein with its castle ruins and monstrous glory Mary Shelley at the top. He said, Shelley used the name after asking a sailor for a trip on the Rhine to tell her the name of "its a castle there".

Historic city hall is the center of the old part of the city, who in 1664 is developed for the purpose of allowing the river Modau flows over the land as the basis for the waterfront.

Pfungstadt is most famous today for its beer, Pfungstadter which can be found throughout Germany. The brewery has a long history. Other aspects of the city: the pool was known far and wide, with the modern function of generation wave, which has been loved by young and old. The city had to close the pool due to the lack of funds needed for the overhaul.

In 1973, the city hosted the 13-th national festival Hessentag.

Pfungstadt is also famous as the birthplace of the great Anglo-Jewish synagogue composer, Julius Mombach.
