Roth Air Base is located 4 kilometres south of the city of Roth in Bavaria, Germany.

Planning base for the nascent Luftwaffe near Roth started in the mid 1930-ies. The building not only works on the air base but also for regular barracks started in 1937 and was completed in 1938. The first block is base was a pilot training school relocated from Landsberg air base in the district of Penzing.

During the Second World War, the number of Luftwaffe fighter wings were stationed at Roth. In 1945 the airfield was bombed by aircraft of the USAAF and surrendered to American forces on 8 April 1945. Subsequently, the base was used as storage for ammunition and bombs.

In 1954 Roths pilot-the fan club received permission to use the runway. This permission has never been revoked and remains in force.

In 1956 the air base was transferred to the German military, first to the Luftwaffe, which used it for basic training recruits, and in 1961 the German army who used the premises to accommodate the units of the army air corps base, to expand and improve already existing structures. The first aircraft will be stationed at the airbase mouth was Alott II and 27, and in 1963, the army aviation battalion 4 was founded at Roth. Since 2009, the army aviation combat helicopter regiment 26 was to 32 helicopters of the type Eurocopter Tiger, replacing the Bo-105. In order to accommodate this new helicopter, extensive construction work on the construction of two hangars for storage and maintenance was started in 2007 and was completed in 2009. However, due to technical problems, shipping was delayed and ultimately not take place.

Although army aviation attack helicopter regiment 26 is of the bases of the main occupant, a small unit from other units of the Armed forces, also stationed in this place, namely, the Army aviation squadron 269, two squadrons of the first fleet from Norway artillery group 23 is equipped with a Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, parts of the first air fleet from Norway training regiment and his staff, as well as parts of Central health services.

In October 2011 the Federal Ministry of defense announced the reorganization / reduction of the German armed forces. As a consequence, army aviation attack helicopter regiment 26 and auxiliary units as well as two squadrons of the first fleet from Norway air defence artillery group 23 and the first air fleet from Norway training regiment will be disbanded. In th fleet of Norwegian officers school moved from the air base fürstenfeldbruck to the company. Central medical services will be expanded at regional medical center. In addition, the regiment Feldjager military police will also be relocated in the mouth. However, after the implementation of these cuts and relocation the number of military personnel at the air base, the mouth will be reduced by more than 80 per cent to 540. With the relocation of the last attack helicopters in 2014, military flying at the air base, the mouth will cease to exist.
