Apaxco is a municipality located in the Zumpango Region in Mexico. The municipal territory is located at a southern pass leading out of the Mezquital Valley about 288 km northeast of the state capital of Toluca. The name Apaxco comes from Nahuatl.

The municipality, founded on 16 Oct 1870, an area of 80.34 square kilometers 31.02 square miles. Apaxco de Ocampo is the municipal seat, is a border town with Vito and El Refugio between the state of Mexico and Hidalgo, cementera inside Cuenca. This is an important area for the construction industry, although it has environmental problems.
