Scranton is the proposed terminal station for New Jersey Transits passenger rail service from New York City and Hoboken, New Jersey, via the Lackawanna Cut-Off to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Currently, NJ Transit provides rail service to Port Morris, New Jersey, via the Lake Hopatcong station. The proposal is to extend this service to Andover, New Jersey, in Phase I, to Blairstown, New Jersey, or Analomink, Pennsylvania in Phase II, and to Scranton in Phase III. Depending on funding, these phases might be consecutive or concurrent.

Ultimate Scranton would be a regional station near the Mall. The new station will be built on Lackawanna Avenue along the North track East of bridge 60 railroad bridge across the Lackawanna river and the street tunnel rocks. For Parking, the station will use approximately 30 persons in Steamtowns existing lot.

From 1908 to 1970, passenger service to Scranton Lackawanna used the big station Railways. Now the Radisson hotel, the building also housed the headquarters of the Railways.
