Wamboin is a rural-residential area in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in the County of Murray, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council LGA. It is approximately 16 kilometres north-east of the Australian city of Canberra.

It should not be confused with the arrival of Wamboyne, near West Wyalong, New South Wales, Wamboin rural areas from Marra in Central Northern Australia, not in the village of Wonboyn lake on the far South coast of New South Wales.

Wamboin is about 20 minutes drive from the Central business district of Canberra, within a 25-minute drive from Canberras city centre and about a 10-minute drive from the city of Queanbeyan. Services in the surroundings of the local Church community center, area recycling at the community center, waste transfer station on Macs Reef road, Bywong and rural fire brigade.

The name Wamboin is probably derived from the tribe wambuuwayn, meaning "large grey kangaroo", although Wamboin is located at some distance from the tribe, the country and the Ngunnawal people, whose country lies between Wamboin and the tribe of the country, and another word for kangaroo borax.

In 2016 Wamboin census 1.708. 27 people identified as aboriginal. Some 76.9% stated that they were born in Australia, and only 49 indicated that they spoke a language other than English at home. The modal age group of 45-54 years. In 2011, persons aged 15 years and above, who gave details of their level of education, 57% said that their qualification at bachelor level or higher level.

The Wamboin community Association provides a wide range of public services and represent the community in political forums, etc. It holds a market in the public hall on Bingley way on the third Saturday of the month except the winter months.
