ⓘ Recapture Canyon

Recapture Canyon is a canyon along Recapture Creek east of Blanding, San Juan County, Utah, United States. It is an archaeological site, and is located on federal land. The Bureau of Land Management closed it to motorized vehicles in 2007 due to damage caused by illegal trail construction.

Recapture Canyon contains dwellings, graves and artifacts of the ancient Pueblo peoples, including the cliff dwellings, built between 1150 and 1300 ad.

Saturday may 10, 2014, the Commissioner of the County of San Juan Phil Lyman organized a protest on legal grounds the opening of the snowmobile tracks. The protest attracted several police officers from the Bundy ranch. Undercover agents documented the illegal BLM travel and investigate potential damage to archaeological resources.
