The District Council of Coonalpyn Downs was a local government area in the Australian state of South Australia that existed from 1957 to 1997 on land in the state’s south-east.

It was established on 30 may 1957 with its headquarters located in the town of Coonalpyn.

To the institution, the district consisted of lands in the hundreds Jeffries, only, Coneybeer, Lewis, field, Colebatch, Richards, Coombe and of the hundreds of Archibald, Carcuma and Kirkpatrick. Therefore, the district includes parts of cadastral County of Buccleuch, Russell, Cardwell and Buckingham.

The creation of the Councils were elected from five wards with all the return two councillors each with the exception of Yumali, who returned one adviser – Coonalpyn, Mackintosh, Richards, Tintinara and Yumali.

13 February 1997, he and district councils of Meningie and the peak were combined to create the Coorong district Council.
